30 Days of Photographs III: Sour

Day 4 of 30 Days of Photographs III is here and already I'm dreading Day 5. If you have any ideas for "Lotion," please let me know, I will reward you handsomely. Also, please remember the one and only rule we have in this challenge; the photo has to be taken by you, after September 1st this year.

Now, add your link at the bottom of the page, check out the rest of the participants, take a Valium, and be happy that there's only 26 days left.

Sour

I was going to go with happy yellow lemons and colourful candy, but in the end I decided on something entirely different. See, there is one thing I am a little bitter (or sour) about. And that's the fact that I haven't had the time or energy to play the piano lately, which is why it now looks like a prop from a scary movie.

  1. i thought lemons too, but i already have a lemons photo and i imagine we'll be seeing a lot of them today, or maybe not. you managed a work around and good job. you're sour about your piano playing and miss it like i do my running. we can sit in the sour box together and drink lemon aid

  2. You play piano too? Is there anything you can't do?

When I read the list of prompts carefully and saw Lotion, I almost opted out. I searched the thesaurus for a synonym that might be fun but alas and alack, lotion is lotion no matter how you rub it in.

  3. Is there anything I can't do? Why yes, I am almost certain I cannot take a photo of lotion and make it look good. We are all screwed...

  5. Don't be scared. I'll hold your... hand.

  6. I get sour when I neglect my instruments too,

  7. I might need your help for my lotion photo...

  8. Um, Ziva. Just how often do you dust? (cough, cough)

  9. Well, we can't all have a pantry full of lemon oil.

  10. That photo kind of scares me and makes me feel better - at least about my housekeeping skills.

  11. I miss my old piano :( I have been dropping hints all over the place for the past few years that I would like a new one but I think my husband probably feels it would end up just like yours. I can not say he isn't right.

  12. Well, I'm glad it made you feel better, it didn't do the same for me. ;)

  13. I don't think I could live without a piano.. Sure, it collects a little dust from time to time, but generally, it's very well loved and cared for.

  14. Ziva, I LOVE your take on this theme. Truly. And I do hope you have the time to play the piano again, like really soon!

  15. This is my favorite photo of the challenge so far. Not sure why, exactly. I love the muted colors, the tired and worn look of piano, and the mystery of the name "Lochmann," which may mean "lake man," and makes me think of the ancient origins of the mermaid myths (if they are myths) and the long, often convoluted paths water takes as it flows from the mountains to the sea.

An unplayed, dusty instrument also has an interminable or persevering quality that leaves me feeling unsettled, even disconsolate, as if I've neglected an old friend for too long, or forgotten something important -- and yet something I cannot remember -- at a hotel while vacationing in another country.

Perhaps you should dust the piano off, and sit down at it to see if your fingers remember how to make music. Perhaps you can ease back into the relationship with it by playing something sad yet beautiful. Snippets of Greensleeves or Hallelujah, for example. Or what you can manage of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, which is deceptively simple to the ear but requires reach and exquisite timing.

  17. Me too, Meleah, me too.. I'm glad you liked it. :)

  18. You know me so well, Michael..

Too well, really. Are you stalking me?

Anyway, thank you for the truly lovely comment, I shall go play the piano now.

  19. Very creative take on sour. If you spent as much time playing the piano as you did taking pictures, you wouldn't be shooting pianos. Not, that you're harming pianos or anything. I'm sure it sounds great... hint, hint.

And remember, you can tune a piano but you can't tune a fish.

  20. Now that is thinking outside the box! Well done, my girl! Well done!

  21. I find this entire comment very confusing. I mean, it's lovely, I think, but very confusing. But what I CAN tell you is that if you scroll down a little you'll find a box with labels in the right hand column. The label called "Ziva plays the piano" will take you to posts where.. you guessed it, Ziva plays the piano. ;)

  22. I wanted to encourage you to play the piano more because you were feeling sour about it.

  23. Hey Ziva! I admire anyone (like my bro) who can play musical instruments. I can force myself to learn stuff on guitar/piano, but it's not who I am, no matter how cool it feels. I salute you! Indigo x

  24. Ah, perhaps you are not a musician, dear Indigo, but you are something much better. You are a writer and a story-teller, you don't need to carry around a rather cumbersome piano to be creative, all you need is a pen and some paper. Or a computer. Whatever floats your boat.

  25. Perfect! I'll bring the piano, you bring the guitar, the violin and the Campari.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Ok, except I sort of...kind of... finished the Campari...

  27. My disappointment knows no bounds.

  28. I like the dust on the keyboards. I feel sour from it. Cool photo!

  29. Ahhh, the sour notes. I sing 'em daily.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I admit to being sour about never learning to play the piano. Sniff.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Thanks, Coco! The dust makes me feel sour, too. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  32. You could still remedy that, you know. ;)
