30 Days of Photographs III: Blackout

Day 30 of 30 Days of Photographs III. It's finally here, the day we never thought would come. It's over. Done. The end. NEVER to happen again. We are free! No more posting and linking and commenting. Our happily ever after has arrived. Run like the wind, my friends, fly like the bird! But first, I'll see you back here tomorrow for Outtakes day.

Blackout

This is a little embarrassing. When Mike and I made blackout the last prompt, we wanted it to have an impact, but a freaking hurricane? I did not see that coming. I swear. I truly hope everyone in the path of the storm is safe and sound. Stay inside, people, be safe. And hey Michael, next time, we're making the last prompt Johnny Depp.

Well, this is the time of year when Finland suffers from its own natural blackout, no Sandy needed. Soon the sun will set for the autumn, and won't show itself for months. Darkness falls, blindfolding the world. Light is a luxury, reserved for a couple of hours around noon, only available to those who seek it out in the middle of the day. I doubt I will. 30 Days of Photographs III has robbed me of my sanity, and from now on, I will be perfectly content with living in the shadows, never taking another photo again.

To everyone who participated, be it with one photo or thirty photos, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You guys rock!

  1. I couldn't make it without the sun..which is why I live in sunny Florida. Thanks for this challenge...my goal this year was to step outside my anal retentive box and try and be a little more creative with both my photography and my art...this challenge certainly played a large part in achieving that for me. I'll now have to get a jar with one random word a day to keep challenging myself...love the Johnny Depp idea ;) Again...thanks.

  2. And a grand journey it's been... Love that last glimpse of light, Ziva! Hope you don't hibernate all winter. I've gotten used to seeing you every day.

  6. A blackout but you still have internet? You're magic, dufus! I'm glad you liked the photo. :) Now I'll be singing that song all day, too. ;)

  7. I will really try to stay among the living and not go MIA like last time. ;)

  9. I guess the lack of natural light is something you get used to - but it would drive me nuts!

  10. A lovely photo to close out this challenge! I don't think I could handle all of the dark days, but maybe with enough alcohol...
I told you, Johnny is MINE!

  11. You get used to it, but for some reason the darkness always takes you by surprise, every single fall.. And likewise the light in the summer, the midnight sun never ceases to amaze you. :) The world is a wonderful place, isn't it.

  12. That is simply beautiful... I didn't realize you had such limited sunlight... much like Alaska I guess.

  13. Johnny is MINE!! But I might share with enough alcohol......

  14. Let's make a deal...if either of us gets him, we will take him to the other to share. K?

  15. Well, we're at the same latitude as Alaska, Greenland and Siberia. ;)

  16. A beautiful picture...like others I too did not realize Finland had so many dark days...

  17. I love this shot and also kind of dread the sun settings on long days.

  18. We'll survive the lack of sun, don't worry. Vodka is the way forward.

  19. Thanks, Jenny! Actually, you're way ahead of most people. See, most people don't even know Finland exists. ;)

  20. Our power's back. I don't think it was related to Sandy. Quebec Hydro was just jealous. Oh and I used my iPad before, hence the name of that other fella. Looking forward to tomorrow's outtakes.

  21. Beautiful photo. I love night time driving.

  22. Wow, that is beautiful. And terrifying. I cannot imagine only having a couple hours of sunlight a day. I'm pretty sure I'd snap and start writing absolutely senseless nonsense. Hmmm... maybe I'd be okay after all.

  23. Hey Ziva! What a corking photo! Puts my own sunset (not in the challenge) to shame. I bow to the mistress of mood. Indigo x

  33. This is such a gorgeous photo, Ziva. It pains me to no end to know that you live without sun for so long.

Thank you for being the hostess with the mostest for this round of insanity. I hope you don't go underground again. I so love seeing and hearing about your little corner of the world.

  34. Thank you, Cheryl! I really am going to try to keep writing. I just need to get out of the apartment first and get a life. ;)

  35. Ah hahahahahaha! This time around, taking photos didn't take nearly as much of my time. What was time-consuming was that people posted from early morning until late at night. As an early riser, last time it was nice that everyone scheduled their posts at the same time and I was able to visit everyone in the morning when I tend to be more alert. I got really worn out trying to write coherent comments on posts that went up late in the day.

As fun as it was, it's a relief it's over and my shoulder has finally healed. (Before this challenge was announced, I had agreed to co-host a popular meme that went live on October 26. Close to 90 people linked up & that ended up being my tipping point.)
