Thirty Days of Photographs: A Favorite Object

For this theme it would have been easy to choose my camera, my phone, my piano, my computer, a good book, any number of things, really. But I decided to go with something --someone-- else. Someone that has been with me for 26 years. Snoopy was once bright white, had a nose and his head didn’t come off every time you pulled on it. 26 years later he's a little worse for wear, but few stuffed animals have been loved as dearly as my Snoopy.

When I was little my mother had to wash him while I was sleeping so I wouldn’t wake up without him, and as a teenager I secretly hid him in the suitcase when I traveled to England all on my own. Nowadays Snoopy sits on my bed all day long, waiting patiently for me to come play with him.

Maybe one day I will. *

  1. It's strange, but I sit around on my bed all day long waiting for somebody to come and play with me, too. Maybe Snoopy and I should get together for a drink some evening.

Nice photo, Ziva. I like the swatch of red angling downward in the direction of Snoopy's gaze.

  2. I love Snoopy.

So why is he such an even shade of brown?

  4. Boy, Snoppy's sure seen better days. He's almost as old as my cat. In people years she should be dead. Nice pic, though.

  5. I'm envious of the place of honour Snoopy has enjoyed over the years. Except for the crammed in the suitcase one, of course.

  6. This puts me in mind of the Velveteen Rabbit but with a much happier ending.  I think your children will find solace in this beautiful pup!  He may be old, but he's still awesome!

  7.  Oh yes, Snoopy is not only awesome, he'll also never be too old to be cool.

  8. He's been crammed in a suitcase so many times he thinks of it as a second home.

  9. Wow, your cat is old. Ancient, even. Are you sure she didn't die and someone had her stuffed and now you just can't tell the difference?

  10.  He's not, actually. He has a short tail, and the fur under the tail is slightly less brown than the rest of him. Weird, I know.

  12. Yup, he's dirty and worn and a little broken, but so damn cute!!

  14. I try to tell him how lucky he is, but I think he's still a little pissed about the time when I lost his nose... Totally not my fault, by the way.

  15. Oh, Ziva, it's obvious no stuffed animal has been loved as much as your Snoopy. I once had a teddy bear like that. Sadly, I lost him a few years back.

  16. Ohh, poor teddy bear! And poor you, I would hate to lose Snoopy.
