30 Days of Photographs IV: Tremor

Welcome to Day 12 of 30 Days of Photographs IV, and what a beautiful day it is. Link up at the bottom of the page, and go spread the love.

Day 12: Tremor

My forgetful co-host MikeWJ blamed me for this prompt. Thing is, it was all him. He thought we needed something huge, something monumental, something like a natural disaster. Earthquake, he thought, we should add Earthquake as a prompt. No, I said, there's no way we can have Earthquake on the list, because it's just not going to work. Well, maybe something similar, Mike mused. Like, vibrating, trembling, tremor.

And so, tremor it was.

Me, I had no ideas. Well, not no ideas. I thought about taking a night photo of some street lights with a shaky hand, painting the tremor into the image. And I thought about taking a photo of an old person's hands. Of course, the very moment this post is scheduled to publish, I will be at the bank, and my own hands will be trembling as I sign a very important paper.

But, I still need a photo... Pictured below is the calm sea, little drops of rain sending ripples, tremors, across the surface.

  1. I thought ripple was something you drank,,, after which you got the tremors.

  2. Yes, that works. Why didn't I think of that? Oh yeah, it never rains in Arizona.

  3. Breathtaking. Seriously, I forgot to take a breath. Now I must get ready for work ... that thing I get paid for.

  4. I always have a shaky hands. If I had been smart, I could've posted a bunch of bad photos. Alas... But I love what you did. That never occurred to me but it created a beautiful pic.

  5. I swear you too must have been drinking heavily when you chose this prompt.

  6. No, Heaven forbid we have Earthquake on the list. It might have squeezed out such wonderfully awesome prompts like Tremor and Tolstoy.

    Lovely picture, Lemmikki.

    Thank you, gorgeous. :)

  8. Oh, we were drinking heavily when we chose all of them. I don't even remember choosing the last ten.

  9. Thanks, Traci. To tell you the truth, I don't think you can use tremor when talking about waves in the water, but who cares, I'm the host of this thing and I approve of this photo. ;)

  10. Breathe, Lauren, breathe. Now stop. Now start again. Now bark like a dog.

  11. Had I been standing next to a huge canyon, I wouldn't have been thinking about anything else, either. ;)

I really like this photo! It perfectly represents the word 'tremor' too!

I guess it's true that it's not too late to join in, but where do we get the prompt?

  14. The ripples on the water could just be the precursor of the tremor to come!

  15. What papers are you signing?????

I love what you did. I'm thinking "vibration" in MikeWJ's hands might have been dangerous...

  16. I like it. It's raining as I type this, so ripply tremors work perfectly :)

I love this photo, even if it barely qualifies for tremor. It's the sort of photo one can study for hours, the eyes tracing lines and points dreamily. I especially like the way it flows from light to dark from the upper left to the lower right. Nicely composed.

Coincidentally, my town is experiencing its fifth straight day of heavy rain and flooding. We've received nearly a year's worth of rain in less than a week. They're calling it a 500-year event, probably related to global warming.

  19. It certainly did. :) Thank you.

  20. Thanks, Mike, I know it was a stretch, but it was all I had. :)

    Try to stay dry, okay?

  21. The rain is my favorite part of autumn.

  22. Oh, just buying a house. :D

You have no idea how often I have to veto Mike's suggestions for prompts! I'm sure he has some really horrible ideas for "My Junk", too.

  23. Ohh! So very true! Let's go with that explanation.
