Thirty Days of Photographs: Self-portrait

For 22 days now, I have been dreading this day. Dreading this picture. There is nothing I hate more than photos of myself, videos of myself the only possible exception. If I can, I avoid being caught on film, and even when I can’t, I turn away. There are a disproportionate number of pictures out there featuring the back of my head.

This means that I’ve spent the past three weeks trying to figure out how to cheat on this picture, and I think I finally have an answer.

Behold, Ziva:

  1. What a beautiful picture of a lake, a car mirror and a camera. I love it!

  2. Odd, but somehow I get the impression that you're closer than you appear.

  3. I wish you were showing that gorgeous face, but this is a good picture!  I'd know it was you from the "attitude".

  4. Well, that's not fair!  Surely you could have given us a better glimpse of what I believe - judging by your sister's photo - a beautiful face.

I'll admit, however, I am not very photogenic; if I get caught on film, I usually have a goofy looking expression.

  5. Wait a minute! You cheat, and it's not even of yourself!! Where is the third arm? Where is the green skin??

  6. I always look like I'm scowling in pictures, or that I look like something stinks. Took a pretty good in in the back of Steve's helmet once on a long mc ride. I like this one, too bad we didn't get to see your face more.

  8. You know I went to MikeWJ's post first so I could come here and says "Ziva, you're much prettier than Mike." And you do this to me you putz. Aw, I' gonna go out on a limb here and say "Ziva, your hands are much prettier than Mike's". Oh yeah, and your mirror's not cracked.

  10. When I was younger, I always was smoking or eating whenever a pic was taken of me--NOT very attractive.  Now that I no longer smoke and eat even more--and have gained FAR too much weight--I refuse to allow my picture to be taken.  I applaud your efforts to keep your image to yourself.

I was just informed by The Oldest that I HAVE to allow pictures to be taken of me already.  She informed me that I'm getting old and there should be SOME record of my existence after I die--which, she implied, is sooner than I think.

  11. Technically, that's the sea, not a lake.

  12.  Thank you! Finally someone who respects my decision to hide my hideously  deformed face. That said, you really should document your existence in some way. Maybe write a letter, or something.

  13. M would be really annoyed if I kept both hands on the wheel while he was driving, he finds it annoying enough now when I have one hand on the wheel and the other on the emergency brake.

  14. That's such a nice thing to say, Mr. Dufus, now I kind of feel bad for not posting a real picture of me. Oh well, maybe next time I happen to be involved in a 30-day photography project and one of the themes happens to be self-portrait.

  15. I would have shown you my face, but I didn't want to give you nightmares.

  16.  Darling Nicky, I don't really need the use the third arm to hold the camera, it's not THAT heavy.

  17. If I get caught on film, I usually hunt down the person taking the picture and kill them in their sleep.

  18. Hello, Mr. I-like-to-sit-600-meters-from-the-camera,-face-turned-away-and-hidden-behind-a-hat.

  19. Oh yes, the placing of my right index finger really conveys that typical Ziva attitude in this picture.

  20. Haha! Great one! I am extremely happy Europeans are smart enough not to need that warning on the mirrors, they would annoy the crap out of me.

  21. I will leave instructions for how they can find my blog--THAT will be more than enough documentation for my family.  :)
