30 Days of Photographs II: Portrait
I have a friend called Zelma. This is obviously not her. This handsome young man is Andréas. He and Zelma play in the same band, Rizzle. I've seen them play so many times, and yet, I never get tired of it. If you have the time, go check them out, have a listen, it'll be worth it.
This photo was taken in a cave, under red lights, with a non-Rizzle band playing music in their pajamas. A toy reindeer stood on the stage with the band, and when someone picked him up, he lost his antlers. It was all very strange, and I think the photo captures the absurdity of the situation perfectly.

Cool photo, Ziva. I like the effects of the red lights. Andreas seems to be enjoying himself.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot, Ziva. I love that he's looks completely unself-conscious because he's not aware of what you're doing.
ReplyDeleteLooks like an artsy eclectic shot with a lot of buzz and energy going on around it -- I like it! :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a GREAT shot.... I love the red... and the story is VERY funny... poor deer!
ReplyDeleteHe seems to be going "What the hell is happening here?" :)
ReplyDeleteI love this portrait. I think mostly because of the angle and I just think the red is awesome. Great shot!!
ReplyDeleteNow, I looked at their video shot at The Castle in Turku - Which one in the audience is you???
Thanks, LM, I'm glad you liked it! Hah, I'm the one hiding from the camera. ;)
ReplyDeleteI know, right? The poor reindeer just wanted to listen to the band and ended up losing his antlers. Story of my life.
ReplyDeleteThank you, I'm glad you liked it. :)
ReplyDeleteI love taking photos of people when they're not aware of being photographed, they look so much more natural and you can capture the most amazingly honest moments..
ReplyDeleteThanks, dufus. I can't speak for Anttu, but I sure enjoyed taking photos. ;)
ReplyDeleteI think we were feeling like that..
ReplyDeleteWas it cold, or is the scarf a fashion statement? Either way, stunning shot of Andreas and the redness of it all just adds to the shot, which is brilliant.
ReplyDeleteThank you, I'm really glad you liked it. :)
ReplyDeleteI guess the scarf was a little bit of both? I don't know, why do you wear a scarf?
Pajamas? What are they, Devo wannabes? And why in a cave? Were they just coming out of hibernation? Oh, just too many questions that need no answers (except the cave part).
ReplyDeleteA really good shot, Ziva. Okay, a great shot (when are they not?).
;-)
I awed by this photograph. Simply awed. The angle, the lighting and, most importantly, the expression on his face are priceless. I feel this photo tells me a lot about a young man I don't know. I may be reading more into it than is here, but he looks artsy, he looks tired and perhaps a bit intoxicated. He's handsome, and seems to be on the prowl for something -- a girl? His friends? And this is his environment; here, at least, he's a prince, and in control.
ReplyDeleteThis is another gem, Ziva. To me, another sign that you would be the champion -- if we had champions -- in this noncompetition. Which we don't, thankfully, allowing me to claim the prize while you're not looking.
I wear a scarf to hide the scar I got in a knife fight one night in Juarez. I warned them and warned them to leave my dog alone, but they persisted. I hope all three of them are resting comfortably now.
ReplyDeleteIn hell.
Really great shot, Ziva. I checked out the link too and I don't know why I was surprised to find out that their band plays Celtic music, a style that I love hearing/seeing performed.
ReplyDeleteThe portrait is fantastic! I love everything about this one!
ReplyDeleteHe looks a bit arrogant...and a bit drunk. The scarf is styled with a bit of "gansta" look. I think that bright light in the back and the red tint tell the real story. Great shot!
ReplyDeleteAndréas = ADORBZ.
ReplyDeletePlus anyone playing music IN PAJAMAS = totally-super-awesome!
Me too. The unposed photo of people is the only one I want to shoot.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo! Brian used to play with local bands. Like you, I never got tired of hearing them play.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Nora! There's something special about local bands, isn't there? I could listen to my brother's band play a million times, too, and I'd never get bored.
ReplyDeleteI'll make sure to tell him you said that! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks, Malisa, I really like the red, too. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda. :)
ReplyDeleteI love their music and the style they play, and they do it really well, which is surprising since they're obviously from Finland and not Ireland. ;) Thank you, Mike, for actually checking out the link. :)
ReplyDeleteMe too.. But for nude, I'm breaking that pattern a little. ;)
ReplyDeleteShit Michael, you're totally badass.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Double-O, I'm really glad you liked it. :) I think the pajamas must have been some kind of weird reindeer thing, but honestly, I have no idea. They played good music, though.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm intrigued.
ReplyDeleteYou awed, me flattered. I feel like I had very little to do with making this photo good, it was all there, just waiting to be photographed. The light, the cave.. I got lucky once again. But I am truly glad that you liked it, I like it, too. :) Now give me back the trophy, you sneaky bastard!
ReplyDeleteYou'll just have to wait and see.
ReplyDeletePlease do!
