30 Days of Photographs II: Fear
I've always been afraid of ever-so-slightly open doors. I'm also a bit OCD, so it might not actually be fear, but let's pretend that's what it is.
ReplyDeleteThe light in the darkness is extremely cool, I know you like dark - that contrast is delicious :)
I'd like to know who's behind the door.
That did it for me. Very, very clever.
ReplyDeleteUh oh. I see the lights from the glowing aliens under that door.
ReplyDeleteFor me, it's that sliver of light under the door that does it for me. I know I'm overusing the word today, but *shudder*.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot and now I must go double check that tall of my doors are securely locked. Thanks for the future nightmares.
ReplyDeleteIf that hand had been gloved, it would have scared me. As it is, I'd think it was someone with a good looking hand coming in to my bedroom to entertain me.
ReplyDeleteI love the lighting of this one.. I actually tried to stage a shot with my winter mitt (for lack of an actual hand) hanging out of an open wall panel. The effect was laughable.
ReplyDeleteThe lighting here is amazing. And that's one of my BIGGEST fears in the whole wide world. Amazing photo, Ziva. Amazing.
ReplyDeleteCreepy! Now I'll get no sleep! :)
ReplyDeleteYep, the sight of Ikea furniture scares me too.
ReplyDeleteNice shot and, yes, creepy (not because of the decor, of course).
;-)
That is so cool, Ziva. It's the "other" side of the door. The side we never see in the movies until it's too late and we've yelled out "Don't open that door you friggin' idiot!"
ReplyDeleteEver-so-slightly open doors are especially frightening if they belong to a dark closet just big enough for a person with an axe, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'm glad you liked the play on light and dark in the photo. :) I really do love the dark, and found it oddly comforting to sit there on the floor, in the dark, staring at the light around the door. And then, I grabbed the axe and hid in a closet.
Thanks, Cheryl! It was a very last minute kind of a photo, but it turned out okay in the end. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou see aliens everywhere, Reffie, I swear, there are no aliens over h.... aaaaarghhhh, get that probe away from me!!
ReplyDeleteBetter close the bedroom door all the way tonight, I wouldn't want you to have nightmares. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou're very welcome, and thank you! ;)
ReplyDeleteHah! Linda, you are so full of wisdom, that makes perfect sense!
ReplyDeleteWell, it sounds... interesting. :D
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Meleah! And I'm sorry if I scared you.. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou know, I probably won't either.. But who needs sleep anyway?
ReplyDeleteHoly crap, your house must be full of Ikea furniture if you can recognize it in a dark, blurry photo like that. :D And thank you, I'm glad you liked the photo (if not the furniture.) ;)
ReplyDeleteI know, right? And who would have thought that the monster on the other side of the door would be little ol' me? ;)
ReplyDeleteComing soon to a theatre near you: "The Girl With the Whip Tattoo...Behind the Door In The Dark".

ReplyDeleteOddly enough, this has the opposite feel to me. As a kid I always loved lying in bed while the adults were awake and talking. The light around the door was reassuring, allowing me to feel that I could afford to take my eyes off the world for a while and nothing bad would happen because other people were keeping a watch on it.
ReplyDeleteQuite possibly the best movie ever made.
ReplyDeleteThat's beautiful... And the way I used to feel about it, too. But then I moved away from home and suddenly there were monsters under the bed. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteSo THIS is why my cat cries at the basement door when we have it closed: she is fearful of what is behind it! ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the pictures you have posted--such talent!
Let me get this straight. You used a 10 second timer, right? So after framing the shot you clattered into the room with your axe, hid in the closet, but first, you carefully closed the door to two millimetres and brightened the bedroom light, much to your man's frustration. This all makes for a great photo, and I can feel the tension...but how long were you in the closet with your axe? Hope you didn't fall asleep and chip the oak.
ReplyDeleteIs that M's hand? Um... it's very photogenic. In a creepy axe-murderer kind of way. *seriously, lemmikki, you let him have a key?!*
ReplyDeleteI love this photo. But... as always - I love the comments also. The photo is just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOh, I've had tons of practice sleeping in the closet with the axe and I haven't chipped the oak in years. Have a little faith in me.
ReplyDeleteYup, this is why your cat cries. This is also why you hear strange noises from down there and why you never should go in there alone.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm really glad you're enjoying the photos. :)
Um, yeah, that's M's hand... But it's not really all that scary, is it? I mean, he's even holding the axe out of sight in the other hand.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kristen! I'm so glad you like it. Both the photo and the comments. ;)
ReplyDeleteIt took me a minute... then I saw the hand. AWESOME.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Katherine, it really was rather creepy to sit there in the dark and stare at that hand. ;)
ReplyDeleteDuring the summer I think the (occasional) bat might be the cause of the noises from the basement, but I may be wrong. ;) (Believe me, I don't go into the basement at night alone very often--it reminds me of a dungeon.) I have no idea, however, why the cat hates closed doors as much as she does--unless it is just fear of what they hide. She IS quite strange--or, in other words, she is a CAT!
