Chinese Water Torture Could Definitely Benefit From This Mattress

Yesterday was the shortest day of the year on the northern hemisphere. I happen to live in the northern hemisphere and that means that yesterday we had 5 hours of sunlight. Today it’ll start to get lighter again, and I have to say, I really enjoyed the 5 hours and 1 minute of sunlight we got today.

We decorated the Christmas tree today. While it was still light outside.

I’m still at M’s parents’ place. When we’re here, M and I sleep in a bed that’s more suitable as a torture device than as a place made for resting. Whenever I’ve spent a night or two in this bed I come home with a herniated disc and a headache. The mattress is so soft that you’ll discover muscles you didn’t think you had just trying to get out of it. When one person moves, the movement reverberates through the mattress and will cause the other person to jump three feet into the air and upon landing find themselves deep in the belly of the mattress. Last night I lay awake for hours and hours, feeling my discs slipping from the complete lack of support. Through the mattress I could feel each tiny, and probably painful, movement M made in his sleep. The only thing that was missing was water slowly dripping on my forehead.

But apparently I did fall asleep at some point, because we woke up to another cold and beautiful day. It was even colder today than it was yesterday, and that made me realize that I desperately need these:

Boots that won’t mind if it’s cold. Or wet. Or cold AND wet.

I haven’t been able to find a single online shop that carries these in the right size and is willing to ship to Finland without adding $150 worth of VAT and shipping fees. So, as desperation sets in, is there anyone in America or Canada who would be willing to buy me these in a size 6 and send them to me? Or better yet, find out what it would cost first. Not that I’m cheap, or anything, I’m just broke. I will repay you, of course. (Make sure you make me send you the money before you send me the boots, though, otherwise you’ll never know if you'll actually get the money or not.) *

  1. What kind of boots are those? They are darling. I'll look for some for you. Size 6 you say? I'm going to have to start calling you Cinderella.

That bed sounds awful, but the tree looks beautiful. Guess we can't have it all, but that's a shame.

  2. Maybe you should grab some sofa cushions and sleep on those - it might help(?)

I like those boots too! I can't use there here, though - no snow.

  3. I just found them on Amazon. They're Sorel Women's Cate, but, yowza! What a price tag!

  4. Linda: They're Sorel's Cate the Great, in tusk/stone color. Sadly, they're also the kind that are insanely expensive and very hard to find.

00dozo: Sofa cushions would definitely be an improvement to this bed! I found them on Amazon too, but they didn't have them in my size. My feet are clearly the wrong size. And the price really truly sucks, but I'm trying to tell myself it would be worth it to have a pair of boots that I could use without losing a foot or two to frostbite.

  5. Well, Ziva, come springtime here they may go on sale so I'll keep an eye out. Now, is that a size six U.S. (or North American) or Euro? I know sizes get iffy between the continents.

  6. Wow. You have freakishly small feet. Do you topple over often?

Seriously, I think you should just make M carry you everywhere and then you would never have to put your feet in snow again. Shouldn't be too hard on him since he's a ninja.

Is that really your in-laws' tree? It's very pretty.

I hope you have a wonderful chiropractic Christmas my sweet Lemmikki. Big hugs and kisses to you,

    N.

  7. Yea! Another soul with size 6 feet. Well, American size 6, that is.

I think there might be a pea under your mattress. I'm sure that's the problem.

  8. @Nicky -- My wife wears a size 5. I suspect Ziva is not as tall as you'd expect a three-armed Fin to be.

@Ziva -- I would gladly buy you the boots, but I'm also broke, plus I'm a guy and I'm not sure I want to go to a women's shoe store to shop. I guess my wife would get them for you, if you're really serious. They look warm and comfortable, as well as stylish.

Meawhile, i's really a shame that at a time of year when you could literally spend 19 hours sleeping in a dark room, you can't sleep at all because of a bad mattress. I hate not being comfortable in my bed, so you have my fullest sympathies.

  9. 00dozo: I wear a European size 36 or 37, which I think is about 5.5 in U.S. sizes, but since this particular shoe doesn't come in half sizes, I figured a size 6 would do the trick.

Nicky: Yep, that's their tree. I took a picture of the good branch. Where did you get the idea that M is a ninja? He's a pale computer nerd who programs himself to sleep every night. The black belt in karate is just a trick to fool people into thinking he's actually athletic.

Luckily for me, I hardly every topple over. Unless I've had a little too much to drink, in which case I topple over almost all the time and blame my freakishly small feet. Hugs and kisses to you too, my gorgeous Nicky.

Reffie: You're a genius! Not only did I find a pea when I looked under the mattress, I found a freaking boulder and two hyenas howling at the moon.

MikeWJ: You're quite right. I'm not as tall as you'd expect a three-armed Finn to be. I'm not even as tall as you'd expect a two- or one-armed Finn (or even fin, if you prefer the fishy variety) to be. I'm 5'1 and proud of my freakishly small feet.

You're sweet Mike, but I couldn't expect Kerry to shop for shoes for me. And I wouldn't want you to jeopardize your manliness by shopping for women's boots, but if you by chance happen to walk by a women's shoe store and see these fabulous boots in the window, I wouldn't be horribly upset if you also noted the price and reported it to me and if it happened to be a good price, I might have to adjust my views on whether or not I want you to jeopardize your manliness.

  10. Those are great looking boots! At this point in time, I can't even afford socks. Size 6 is a bitch. Hope you also don't have narrow foot issues like me. I've been in shoe therapy for years because of feelings of inadequacy from not being able to shop at major department stores.

  11. Lauren: You know the only cure for shoe size depression is some really awesome designer pumps, right?
