Calling The Russian Embassy Right Now

I've made a huge mistake. I'm not quite sure how it happened, but I'm pretty sure there was alcohol involved. Alcohol and some very creative begging and pleading on Nicky's part. Well, the hangover is gone and I've put the toys away, and now all I'm left with is a sinking feeling that Nicky and Mike's 30 Minus 2 Days of Writing is going to be the end of me.

That's right, in a weak moment I may have said I'd participate.

Shoot me now.

I cried when I read the list of prompts. Especially Day 12. A real gem, that one.

My only comfort right now is that there are no rules. If I run out of ideas, I can just post a photo instead. Or take off and hide in Siberia.

And speaking of Siberia and freezing one's ass off, here are a couple of photos I've taken lately.

  1. I'm so happy this is there and not here. As lovely as it is to look at, I prefer my white to be made of sand along the beach in south Florida.

  2. I was particularly fond of Day 12. I found it to be quite an outlier compared to the other prompts... almost Kafkaesque, even. But yes, sometimes people do pick the stupidest prompts ever for their challenges. And then the poor participants are stuck with the resulting insanity. Luckily, that didn't happen this time. :-)

  3. While I can't take credit for Day 12 - there are a couple of prompts I snuck in the list. Hate to say it - but my Abe Lincoln post is already written. It helps to be OCD and drunk. Am working on my knock knock jokes now.

  4. Beautiful pictures Z.
As for the writing challenge, the only chance I have of participating is if I start writing now.

  5. The photos are brrrrrr-eautiful! Day 12? Lincoln? Uh oh.

  6. Thanks, Reffie! And yeah, Lincoln. Bleh.

  7. Well I certainly hope you've started writing then, cause I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with. ;) The last time they did the writing challenge, I was the one getting married, and I'm not even sure if I participated once, even though I really was going to try to do it. Damn weddings.

  8. Holy crap, please may I have some of your inspiration? Or some of your alcohol?

  9. I have no idea what you're talking about. Michael and I have only ever picked inspiring and challenging prompts, nothing like Day 12 in this little challenge of yours. You'll owe me some serious awkward banana after this. ;)

  10. Hah! I'd love some white sand on a sunny beach with warm water and a handsome dark-haired bare-chested man bringing me drinks..... But yeah, snow is good, too. :P

  11. Losing It With KevinJanuary 15, 2013 at 3:44 AM

As always, some amazing photographs. You make me want to get back out there and take some photographs for myself! Thankfully there's no snow here, but when it comes to taking pictures, I kind of wish there was. Gorgeous!

  12. I love your photos, Ziva. I'm using two of them as my desktop backgrounds at work. They're peaceful, and beautiful. And frozen. No wonder they make vodka in Finland. It's naturally chilled. In fact, I'm guessing everything is chilled all the time unless you hold it directly over a fire. As Abe Lincoln would say, ....... Oh, who gives a flying fick what he'd say?

  14. You and Michael? I never said anything about you and Michael. Seems like someone has a guilty conscience... ? :-)

  15. Amazing photos. Is the chain a metaphor for 30 Minus 2 Days of Writing? I also said I would particpate but could handle 10 consecutive posts, if that. Since it's getting busy at work, the number will drop into single digits, which I hope isn't true of the weather.

  16. Thank you so much, Kevin! I was lucky to be out when the sun was shining for once, and the frost was just gorgeous. Makes for easy photographing. :)

  17. Always such a flatterer, Michael. ;) Thank you, I'm really glad you liked the photos. Sometimes when nature fucks you over with shit like winter and snow and cold, it gives you a nice photo opportunity in return.

  18. The chain and anchor is definitely a metaphor for 30 Minus 2 Days of Writing, this challenge is going to make me sink like a rock. I'm really going to try to participate every day, but I highly doubt I'll be able to.. I tend to sabotage myself and find more pressing things that need doing. Like alphabetizing the contents of my fridge.

  19. I have six days covered so far. I think I can finish a good part in before the start of the month

  20. Got this in my inbox:

    Europe in winter

Here is a truly European account of how Finns cope with winter:

+15 °C, Spanish wear caps, gloves and winter coats, Finns are sunbathing.

+10 °C, French desperately try to get their central heating on. Finns plant flowers.

+5 °C, Italian cars won't start. Finns drive with convertibles.

... ... 0 °C, Pure water freezes. Water in river Vantaa thickens a bit.

−5 °C, First people are found frozen in California. Finnish midsummer festival ends.

−10 °C, Scottish turn the heat on in their houses. Finns start to use long-sleeve shirts.

−20 °C, Swedes stay indoors. Finns are having last barbeque before winter.

−30 °C, Half of the Greek people have frozen to death. Finns start to dry their laundry indoors.

−50 °C, Polar bears evacuate North Pole. Finnish army starts its winter training.

−70 °C, Siberian people are moving to Moscow. Finns are furious since the Koskenkorva booze can't be stored outdoors anymore.

−273 °C, Absolute zero. Finns admit that it is quite cold outside.

−300 °C, Hell freezes over. Finland wins the football World Cup.

  29. Yeah, the ending wasn't quite what she'd expected, I imagine. Abe, on the other hand, was very impressed. Blew him away.
