30 Days of Writing: Cheese

My momma always told me that if I don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. So I won’t.

I lied.

I will.

Cheese sucks. I hate it.

That said, over the next thirty days or so, Nicky and Mike over at We Work for Cheese will be handing out writing prompts for free, no strings attached. Not even stringy cheese. Somehow Nicky decided that what we all really need in order to get writing again after the insane 30 Days of Photographs Challenge, is to do yet another challenge, but this time it will be 30 Days of Writing. Luckily for me, there are absolutely no rules, as has been pointed out to me many times. Something tells me people really didn’t like all the rules Michael and I had in our photo challenge...

Anyway, thanks to the lack of rules, I can commit to not committing to this challenge. See, I’m committing to something else very soon. Someone else, really. I’m getting married to my very own computer geek, M, this summer, and the wedding preparations are eating up all my free time these days. I lie awake at night, thinking about everything I have to do. I don’t have time to read blogs, comment on blogs or write posts. But because I love Nicky, I will still try my very best to write something based on a few of the prompts. Just don’t hold your breath waiting for my posts, okay?

Too bad today’s prompt was “Cheese,” otherwise I would’ve totally posted something today. Don't worry, though, the rest of the prompts are better. Frankly, how could they not be? A link to the other participants can be found over at Nicky's place.

  1. Wow, you really don't like cheese?  You are the second person I've ever known who didn't like cheese.  I had an uncle who didn't like cheese, but he took things further.  He didn't like mustard, mayo or ketchup.  So what did he use on his sandwiches?  Butter!

    Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials!

  2. You are the very first person I have ever known to not like cheese. Are you sure your taste buds are in working order? ;)

  3.  There are cheeses I don't like, but there are cheeses I love.  Still, I respect your opinion on this.  Is it the texture that offends you?  Is it the milk base?  Wine, bread, fruit and cheese is a diet I can live with, but when you and your new husband visit, I will carefully avoid the "c" product!  I'm so excited about your upcoming wedding!  I know it will be gorgeous and perfect.  Don't fret too much, Ziva!  It will all be wonderful and over in a moment!  Then you can start getting "Wife Money".

  4. So, I'm guessing you wont be having cheese platters at the reception??? Too bad that you couldn't get it together enough to post something for today. I probably will not be following the no-rules rules too.

  5. Why so mean to cheese? :(

But, hey, this all counts, right? No rules! And honesty always works!

  6. See, your hatred of cheese is the only reason I'm allowing this marriage of yours to happen.  Otherwise M would never stand a chance. I appreciate your efforts to participate in this challenge despite the time-suck that is wedding planning. I award you 1,000 points for that. However, I award you -1,010 points for saying you hate cheese. If I didn't love you so much, it would have been - 20,000 points. :-)

  7. Damn, a wedding. Why didn't I think of that as a way to get out of this damn 30 day writing thingy. But then again that might be difficult. I already have a wife. And finding a second one could be really hard. Hell, I think I'll just have a piece of cheese and think on it.

Do you have any idea how convenient it would be to marry a computer geek?! You are an incredibly lucky woman, Ziva. I have computer problems all the time, and could really use a computer geek to help me solve them.

Lately, for example, my wireless router has been cutting in and out a lot. It probably needs a firmware update, but I lost the fucking password that I set it up with, which means I'd have to reset the thing and start over again.

Now, if I was marrying M -- and don't think I haven't thought about it, especially the part where we take our honeymoon in sunny Saint-Tropez -- that wouldn't be a problem. But I'm not marrying M, you are, and so my woes multiply daily.

Anyway, I know this comment didn't have anything to do with cheese -- except for this part, of course, but only tangentially -- but there are no rules in this competition so I thought I'd take this opportunity to share my thoughts about marrying a computer geek with you. Also, I'd like to give a shout out to The Black Keys! They're awesome!

  9. Cheese 'aint for everybody.  But if you ask Charlie Sheen; neither is marraige!
    Good luck next month.

  10. See? That wasn't so hard. You barely had to talk about delicious cheese at all.

  11. Short and sweet, not cheesy at all.  I like it.

    Yeah, the post.

Oh, and I like a little cheese now and then.

Yeah, in posts and to eat.

    :)

  12. Ah, but I had to mention it on my blog, which is a decidedly cheese-free zone. I am traumatized.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Hah, well I am no expert in cheese, and Charlie Sheen definitely isn't very good at marriage. But I do know that I do not like cheese, no matter who's married to it.

  14. I might have a solution to your problem. How about I send you a list of things to do for my wedding, that way I'll get some help with the planning, and you'll get to use the wedding excuse without actually getting married.

  15. If honesty always works, just wait and see what I have to say about camels. ;)

  16. Nope, no cheese platter or cheese fountain or cheese sculpture or cheesecake. Actually, I don't mind a little cheesecake..

    ReplyDelete
  17. It's not the texture or the milk, it's the taste. I don't hate all cheeses, cream cheese is fine, for example, and a nice Brie is lovely. But any strong-flavored cheese will make me want to throw up a little.

Wife Money? How awesome is that? I sure hope M knows about this, too.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hah, they sure are! I'm a little worried about the rest of the world, though, what with this cheese-loving epidemic. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  19. I really don't like cheese, there is just something horribly wrong with the flavour. I also don't like mustard. Or onion. I think your uncle must have been very smart, I use butter on my sandwiches, too. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Wife Money is a concept important to all brides.  I posted about it last week.  I called it "Wife Money".

    ReplyDelete
  21. If you were marrying M, MY woes would mutliply daily, so all in all, I'm very happy with the way things are turning out. Don't worry, though, I'll let you borrow his expertise.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I like sweet, too. And short. Short is very good, actually. You should tell that to BonyMike. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Well, as I said in my post, I haven't had time to read any blogs. ;) But since I still don't know what Wife Money is, I'll have to stop by and see what I'm missing out on.

  24. I love cheese, but what was I going to write about it...other than I love it. That was it...I'm glad you reminded me about the no rules rule. I think I'll be posting on the ones that I feel like posting and not so much on the ones I don't. Should have done that with your and Michael's challenge too, but I had to follow the rules...otherwise, anarchy would have reigned and we can't have that, can we? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Well, UP, Michael and I just really like to crack the whip. ;) That said, we never would've actually penalized anyone for not posting on time or missing a day, whereas Nicky is going to make fun of you mercilessly if you don't post. ;) So arguably, no rules is even worse than a whole lot of rules.

  26. What nuptials?   Clearly, you won't be serving your guests cheese.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Really? You don't like cheese? Not even Leipäjuusto? (Yes, I looked that up)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Well, I guess you're glad that it's not, "30 Days of Writing about Cheese", I mean, considering the source of this writing challenge.  Heh, heh.

Like you said, the one thing that I also like about this meme is that there are no rules and, hence, no pressure to post everyday.  Although you are under a lot of pressure with your wedding planning,  I hope you'll post a droplet or two (it can even be a photo!! And you are so good at those).  But, you do realize, all of us are expecting a webcast of the nuptials, don't you??  Because that would be the ultimately cheesy (if not wonderful) "post". ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  29. No way, my wedding will be a completely cheese-free affair.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hah! Of course you'd look up the one cheese that I actually eat. But it doesn't really taste like cheese, so it doesn't count.

    ReplyDelete
  31. A webcast? Of the wedding? MY wedding? Live? Uhmm.. I don't think we have internet in Finland, so clearly it won't be possible. I'm sorry. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  32. It really doesn't taste like cheese? They call it cheese. It's not Finland's answer to Kraft Singles?

    ReplyDelete
  33. No internet in Finland?  Who are you kidding?  You lie like an hand-knotted Indian rug.  But really, it would be nice to spew (throw) rice instead of my morning coffee at my computer screen for a change.

Pleeeeeese?  Hell, even if we only see your ass (I mean backside) walking down the aisle, at least we'll get a glimpse? ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hah, there MIGHT be a problem with the internet, you never know. :D Anyway, I doubt there will be video from the church, but I will definitely consider posting photos from the wedding. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  35. "Anyway, thanks to the lack of rules, I can commit to not committing to this challenge."

Dammit. I wish I had thought of that!

  36. Hi Ziva,

It's been too long since I've haunted your site. I've been working 5-day weeks and have had less time to frequent the bloghood. Marrying your own personal computer geek. What a concept! Is that a new service of Computer Geeks?  Seriously, I'm thrilled you two are tying the knot this summer. Congrats!

I think I'm going to try the 30-day challenge in 14 days.

  37. Welcome back, Lauren! I've been just as bad about visiting, so don't worry about it. I've not visited any blogs now in forever, only sporadically at best. But once this whole wedding chaos is over,  I will return to the land of the living. Or blogging.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Haha, at least I made good on my promise not to commit. ;)
